Abstract

Ismat Chughtai is a powerful female voice of 20th century Urdu fiction. Her stories not only provide social awareness to women but also encourage them to speak up for their rights."Chothi ka Jorra” is considered one of her best stories. The story shows how social customs and traditions can create sadness and pressure, especially for people who don’t have enough money. It also shows the quiet pain of parents who want to give their children happiness but feel helpless. Through its emotional and simple storytelling, the story makes readers think about how society sometimes values tradition more than people’s real feelings and needs. This paper will deconstruct the story, bring out its artistic contradictions, and attempt to present a new understanding of it.
