The world of today is replete with prose writers but Shafiq ur Rehman is one of the renowned prose writers in Urdu literature. His writings always have soothing effect on his reader’s mind. He used parody, irony, comparison, wit, humours situation and characters to ereate humour in his stories. The Characters of his short stories are the real ones. The hero of his short stories is handsome, sports loving, witty, steady and serviceable fellow. The humorous character of his short stories is “Shaitan”. He creates humour in many stories from this character. In this article, his representative characters shaitan, Maqsood Ghora, Modi, Buddi, Tamana, Mein, Nannha and Nannhi have been discussed.
