Feminist Consciousness in Urdu Playwriting

Abstract

Women's consciousness is an important theme in drama writing, which highlights Women's rights and their social status. In dramas, women's consciousness is reflected in various ways, such as representing women through roles like mother, daughter, sister, wife and daughter-in-law etc to highlight their different aspects. A voice is raised for their rights, women are portrayed as independent characters who make their own decisions and struggle to achieve their goals. Countless dramas have also been written on this subject in Urdu drama writing. Along with male dramatists, female dramatists have also been numerous dramas especially the dramas of female dramatists like Dr. Rashid Jahan, Ismat Chughti, Saleha Abida Hussain and Amina Nazli mostly focused on women's issues. These dramatists broadened Urdu drama further by highlighting the condition of women in society, their psychological state, and issues like marriage.
