Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s Philosophical Impacts on Pir Muhammad Karam Shah Al-Azhari’s Prose

Abstract

Pir Muhammad Karam Shah was a translator, commentator of the Holy Qur’an, distinguished scholar, educator, an eminent biographer of the Prophet (PBUH), and a profound Islamic thinker. His powerful and thoughtful speeches and writings left a lasting impression on the world of scholarship. Deeply in love with knowledge, he had a profound affection for books. As a unique and influential writer, his greatest literary contributions include Tafsir wa Tarjuma al-Qur’an and Sirat-un-Nabi (PBUH). He had a deep interest in Iqbal’s philosophy, and the influence of Iqbal’s poetry is clearly visible in his works. Whether it is Zia-ul-Qur’an (his Qur’anic commentary) or Zia-un-Nabi (his biography of the Prophet (PBUH). Iqbal and Pir Muhammad Karam Shah, both shared a deep alignment in thought and purpose, rooted in their shared commitment to Islamic tradition and Qur’anic thought. They were lovers of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and men of action. Iqbal with his poetry and philosophy, and Pir Muhammad Karam Shah with his scholarship and Sufi lifestyle. Pir Muhammad Karam Shah beautifully integrated Iqbal’s powerful ideas into his own writings, allowing Iqbal’s thought to enhance the message and impact of his works. Zia-ul-Qur’an is a shining example of this. Zia-ul-Qur’an stands apart from traditional tafsir in its unique style, combining classical Islamic knowledge with contemporary relevance. His use of Iqbal’s philosophy was intended to intellectually and spiritually nourish the younger generation and reconnect them with the true spirit of Islam. The legacy of Pir Muhammad Karam Shah and Iqbal, will continue to inspire future generations. Their works-Pir Muhammad Karam Shah’s writings and Iqbal’s poetry will not only quench the thirst of knowledge seekers but also serve as guiding lights for those who have lost their way.
