The Concept of Love in Tariq Hashmi’s Ghazal in the Perspective of Classical Poetry

Abstract

Urdu poem seems dominant in the field of Urdu literature almost about a half century back. Far behind the scene during classical period, we see only Urdu ghazal catering a big toll of commendation. After this the literary era was a mash up of Urdu poem and Urdu Ghazal. Poets like Faiz were in well in practice to grow such culture. The contemporary time of Urdu literature is in favor of Urdu poem. In such a time, the revival of Urdu Ghazal is a significant distinct itself. Only few of Urdu poets are indulged in versifying Urdu Ghazal. Tariq Hashmi is amongst them with a distinctive tendency towards Urdu ghazal. His Ghazal consists upon classical elements in which the concept of love is prominent. The present paper is to study the concept of love in Tariq Hashmi’s Ghazal under the perspective of Urdu classical poetic modes.
