The Rank of Bedil Haidari in Urdu Poetry

Abstract

This paper examines the significant role of Bedil Haidari in Urdu poetry, particularly within the context of 20th-century literary developments. Poetry, as an important and widely appreciated art form, allows for the expression of human emotions and sentiments, and has been a key component of South Asian culture. Prominent poets such as Ghalib, Mir, Iqbal, and Faiz shaped the trajectory of Urdu poetry, with the 20th century witnessing notable artistic and intellectual experimentation. In this era, Bedil Haidari sought to harmonize classical traditions with modern sensibilities. His poetry focused on themes of economic hardship, critiquing the bourgeoisie, advocating for labor rights, and addressing international issues. His work not only articulated these concerns but also explored their root causes. Talib Hussain Batalvi and other contemporaries recognized Haidari's efforts to give voice to the oppressed, viewing his work as a call for societal transformation toward peace and love. Today, Bedil Haidari's poetry continues to resonate deeply with readers, underscoring its timeless relevance in the literary world.
