Dr. Syed Abdullah is a foundational figure in Urdu criticism. His work is a key pillar in the field. He deeply explored the nature of poetry and also mastered other areas. These include the role of criticism, comparing Eastern and Western ideas, and literature's social purpose. His methods are balanced, connecting tradition with modernity. Most of his writings focus on classical literature, showing his classicist roots. However, he was also fully in tune with modern principles. He created a unique blend of the old and the new.
This research will provide an analytical study of his major critical theories from his book, Isharat-e-Tanqeed. The analysis will be based directly on the original text of his work.
