Abstract

 

Abstract: Novel as a genre is not an indigenous artifact. It is most popular and prominent genre of the world literature. So that is true for Subcontinent. Urdu is the first language of more than half of the population of Subcontinent and Urdu Novel has the same feature and popularity which is believed for international Novel.This article ponders on the basic definition of novel from the western perspective. Firstly it deals with the question that is the novel developed form of old style tales and Drama or it has some other philosophical foundations. Secondly it describes that Urdu Novel is not a developed form of DASTAN. Essay concludes that novel as genre is the product of modern era of electricity and democratic form of social setup. This is basic philosophical perspective in which Urdu Novel laid its foundation in British Era subcontinent.
